Capita online payment solution available to NHS organisations

Capita’s software services business has introduced online payment solutions to seven NHS organisations across the UK, via the NEP Shared System Group (SSG) framework agreement.
As a result, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Co. Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are now able to receive payments made online. These include:
- Processing invoice payments;
- Payment of prescription fees;
- Medical records access charges;
- Charitable donations;
- Course booking fees;
The NEP framework was created in 2012 to encourage NHS organisations to work together to achieve savings via a common financial and procurement solution, which can then be ploughed into frontline services. The framework is shared across 61 NHS organisations
Jon Peart, payments director at Capita’s software services business said: “Offering flexible payment solutions is essential for collecting debt in a timely manner and implementing online payments systems not only benefits the Trusts, but also patients, outpatients and the wider community.
“The ability to process payments online will positively impact the Trusts by reducing not only the cost of arrears collection, but also the number of reminder issues which need to be generated, as it’s easier for payments to be made. It also lessens the load on employees as they are not required to manually take payments or update finance systems, as this is done automatically.”
Christine Hall, associate programme director of NEP SSG, said: “It’s great to see that seven Trusts are making use of the framework and securing procurement solutions which will provide increased flexibility and efficiency.
“There is sometimes the assumption amongst the general public that the NHS is free. While in the main it is, there are many examples such as prescriptions, private work and costs incurred by overseas visitors which are not. This added value service ensures that payments for services such as these are collected quickly and is vital to maintaining a healthy cash flow.”
