In support of its ambition to be one of the “most advanced tax administration in the world” HMRC announced 'Making Tax Digital' - a fundamental overhaul to the way that businesses and organisations operating in the UK will manage, report and share their finances with HMRC.

The first wave of the ‘Making Tax Digital’ changes are how VAT and Income Tax is shared with HMRC. From April 2019, all organisations over the £85,000 threshold must submit their VAT returns to HMRC digitally. Some public sector organisations have a deferred date to the end of October, but by the end of 2019, all VAT returns will be sent to HMRC via a digital channel.

Despite all this digital change, HMRC will not be providing software to support this initiative, therefore organisations must adapt and change their finance software platforms to be fully compliant.
